WorkSafeBC held a breakfast event to launch their new asbestos website HiddenKiller.ca. The website includes comprehensive information on what asbestos is, where it can be present, how to prevent exposures and links to information resources, along with videos and personal stories. The website also provides information on how to make a claim in the event that a worker sustains an asbestos-related disease and contact information. This fall, WorkSafeBC will be launching a new exposure registry so that workers can submit a record when they believe they have been exposed to a harmful substance, such as asbestos. A link to this registry will be added to the Hidden Killer website.
The website is the first comprehensive asbestos website in Canada.
AREA Fund Co-Founders Tracy Ford and Lesley Ford attended the event. Tracy had the opportunity to speak about her Dad’s battle with mesothelioma, an asbestos-related disease, and the fund that the Ford family created in his memory. In advance of the event, the AREA Fund provided some assistance to WorkSafeBC:
•Real Life Stories Page - AREA Fund provided WorkSafeBC with a starting point by getting them in contact with the people who provided stories to the AREA Fund for their Your Stories page
•Website Review - AREA Fund was provided with access to the website prior to the launch and provided feedback before it went live
